The Scout Troop
The Troop Scout Leader runs the Troop with a team of assistants, Young Leaders and helpers who all give their time freely and have had training to help them do an effective job. The Leaders are responsible for planning and running the programme of games and activities for Troop Meetings and special outings and other events.
The youngsters work in small groups called Patrols, with each Patrol led by an older Scout called a Patrol Leader, assisted by an Assistant Patrol Leader.
The Troop has simple ceremonies, one of which is the Investiture when the Scout will be asked to make the Scout Promise.
What do Scouts really do?
Scouts enjoy a great deal of fun and adventure whilst in the Troop. They'll have opportunities to gain awards and badges. These awards are given in recognition of the effort made by each youngster at their own level of development and understanding.
The Scout Programme includes such activities as:
Caring for the environment, Camping, Model making, Cooking, First Aid, Swimming, Exploring, Helping others, HAVING FUN!
The Balanced Programme
The philosophy underpinning the Programme is that every Scout should participate in a Balanced Programme over a period of time.
In Scouting, the word Programme has a wide interpretation. The Programme is not just about the activities that Scouts can take part in (almost anything from abseiling to zorbing). It is also how we do these activities (the Methods) and our motivation in doing them (values deriving from the Scout Promise).
We offer young people in the Scout section a Balanced Programme; a range of activities, events and experiences built around six Programme Zones.
